| "A lady named Michelle McKenzie had seen some of my work and attended one of my shows. She approached me one day and asked if I would be interested in a commission to paint the radical poet Gil Scott-Herron. I have always been a fan of Herron's work and jumped at the opportunity. The first time I heard of Herron was, actually, from a Chuck D son - 'The Revolution would not be Televised'. It is a great song, I recommend you check it out if you haven't heard it. Herron, I think, was a precursor to modern Rap Music because he used to recite his poetry over music and had a major-,r creative influence on a lot of today's artists." |
